Having secured a fourth-placed finish in the William Hill Premiership and our return to the European stage,  strategic planning within the football department for the 2025/26 campaign is already underway - and therefore we can provide an initial squad update on players who will be departing the club upon the expiry of their contract.

After two years of outstanding service to the club both on and off the pitch, Championship-winners Declan Gallagher, Louis Moult and Ross Docherty will depart for pastures new.

Arriving in the summer of 2023 to bolster our promotion bid, the trio have led by example as pivotal members of the dressing room, whilst making priceless contributions to our successes in both second tier and the top flight.

Gallagher marshalled British football’s meanest backline with distinction last term, before continuing to be a dependable stopper upon our return to the Premiership - involved in over 3,000 minutes of action and aiding his side to ten shutouts on our way to Europa League qualification.

The 34-year-old aptly marked his final appearances for the club with his first league goal to crucially restore parity and belief against Aberdeen.

Frontman Moult has enjoyed a renaissance in tangerine following a disheartening period plagued with injury. The Englishman topped the Championship scoring charts, rippling the net no fewer than 18 times during the most prolific season of his illustrious career, and also notched a respectable five assists. One-third of all goals scored by United on our charge to the title directly involved Moult.

2024/25 brought a series of frustrating impact injuries for our number nine, however his efficacy in front of goal remained, ending the season with five strikes in nine starts across all competitions - including a jaw-dropping, match-winning overhead kick against St Mirren which was subsequently named as our Goal of the Season.

Named as captain after impressing Manager, Jim Goodwin, with his leadership qualities in the early stages of his Tannadice career, Docherty has been a colossal figure in midfield when available for selection. Across his two-year stint in the city of Discovery, United have only lost nine league matches in which he has featured.

The Paisley-native was only the second captain in the post-war period to lead us to the second-tier title, and latterly one of only four players to skipper us to a place in the UEFA Europa League since the turn of the century, starring in all eight of our final William Hill Premiership clashes of the season.

Former Barcelona starlet and North Macedonian international David Babunski leaves with our best wishes, a crucial member of the squad during the opening months of the campaign, as does fellow midfielder Allan Campbell - who arrived on a short-term deal from Luton Town in January.

Players’ Player of the Year Sam Dalby’s scintillating loan spell from EFL League One outfit Wrexham AFC has come to its conclusion - with the Englishman’s final tally for a magnificent season in tangerine standing at 15. Dalby received critical acclaim throughout his time in Scotland, named William Hill Premiership Player of the Month for November, and leading the line for the PFA Team of the Year.

After keeping 36 clean sheets in 86 appearances between the sticks and topping the William Hill Premiership save charts with a staggering 112 stops throughout the term, Jack Walton returns to Luton Town with our sincere gratitude for his services as he looks to challenge for the number one jersey at Kennilworth Road.

Influential, up-and-coming loan stars Luca Stephenson and Emmanuel Adegboyega go back to their parent clubs enriched with over 5,500 minutes of senior experience, whilst Lewis Fiorini and Ruari Paton also head south of the border to link-up with their permanent employers Stockport County and Port Vale respectively.

The curtain also falls on Tony Watt’s career on Tayside, having netted on 20 occasions across his four seasons with the club.

Finally, we wish Academy graduates Ollie Simpson, Zeke Cameron, Adam Carnwath and Bryan Mwangi the best of luck seeking new challenges as their time at Tannadice comes to an end.

The club remains in contractual discussions with several players - a further update will be provided to supporters in due course.
