CHAMPIONS '83 | COMMEMORATIVE PLAQUE

14th May 2023

As Dundee United FC continue to embrace the memories and celebrate the 40th anniversary of our greatest-ever achievement, a commemorative plaque will be placed adjacent to the Jim McLean statue at the top of the Eddie Thompson ramp.

The plaque will detail the important statistics of the glorious season that culminated in Dundee United being crowned Premier Division Champions at Dens Park on the 14th May 1983.

Captain throughout the campaign and club Hall of Fame Inductee Paul Hegarty said: “The achievements of that season grow more significant over time, and it makes me proud to have been part of the squad that has brought so much happiness to the fans. I am often asked about the statistics of that season, and it was from being asked this that I started to realise how significant we as players feel they are. I am delighted that the club have decided to put in place a permanent reminder of the vital statistics behind the season.”

Dundee United CEO, Luigi Capuano said: “The success of 1983 remains the very cornerstone of our club’s proud history and is widely recognised as one of Scottish Football’s greatest-ever achievements.

"This plaque will further remind supporters not only of our title win but the key facts and figures that made it possible.

"For United fans who were there on that famous day and for those who have had stories passed through generations, this will be a constant reminder of our club reaching the pinnacle of domestic domination and glory.

"As a club, we are honoured to pay tribute to the staff and players of our title-winning squad and look forward to continue celebrating their success."
