UNITED ON LOAN

6th April 2021

Dundee vs St Johnstone - Scottish Cup 3rd Round

Player - Paul McMullan

Result - Dundee 0 - 1 St Johnstone

Paul McMullan’s Dundee side was knocked out of the Scottish Cup in the Tayside Derby vs St Johnstone at Dens. Guy Melemed put St Johnstone ahead while Charlie Adam missed a penalty for the home side. Paul was unlucky not to score with a powerful effort from outside the box which beat Zander Clark in the St Johnstone goal before it struck the crossbar.

Livingston vs Raith Rovers - Scottish Cup 3rd Round

Players - Adam King and Nathan Cooney

Result - Livingston 2 - 1 Raith Rovers AET

On form Raith Rovers took Premiership side Livingston to extra time at Almondvale yesterday.

Both Adam King and Nathan Cooney had to settle for spots on the bench, with Adam playing the last 10 minutes of extra time. Nathan, who joined up with John McGlynn’s men only a week ago, will hope for some game time next Saturday when they take on Arbroath at Stark’s Park.

Despite being out of the cup, Raith will be very much hoping to secure second place in the Championship over the coming weeks as the shortened season nears its completion.

Fraserburgh vs Montrose - Scottish Cup 3rd Round

Player - Chris Mochrie

Result - Fraserburgh 2 - 4 Montrose

Chris Mochrie and his Montrose teammates made the long trip North to take on Fraserburgh, looking to advance to the Fourth Round of the cup.

A busy contest with six goals, it was our man Mochrie who got the visitors off to a flyer after only two minutes. Despite losing two goals in quick succession and falling behind, the League One side hit back with goals both sides of half time, rounded off by a fourth from Lewis Milne in the 90th minute.

Montrose will face another long away trip in the next round to face Kilmarnock on the weekend of the 17th of April. Before that, however, attention will now turn back to league business as the Gable Endies are on the road on Tuesday to take on Dumbarton where they will look to keep the pressure on league leaders Falkirk, who sit six points ahead of them at the summit of League One.

Celtic vs Falkirk - Scottish Cup 3rd Round

Players - Lewis Neilson and Kai Fotheringham

Result - Celtic 3 - 0 Falkirk

Both Lewis Neilson and Kai Fotheringham started as League One leaders Falkirk headed to the home of the holders. Lewis started in the middle of a back three while Kai played on the right side of the midfield. Lewis played the full ninety and Kai was replaced after 64 minutes.

Although the Bairns went down by three goals, it was a valuable experience for the lads as they continue to gain valuable game time on loan for their development.

Rangers vs Cove Rangers - Scottish Cup 3rd Round

Player - Ross Graham

Result - Rangers 4 - 0 Cove Rangers

Centre back Ross Graham played 90 minutes at Ibrox as Cove were beaten by the on-form Scottish Premiership Champions. Despite the scoreline, Cove put in a spirited and solid performance and Ross can be pleased with his performance with a fantastic experience that he can carry forward.

Cove will now turn their attention back to league business as they look to consolidate second place in League One and will hope to put as much pressure on league leaders Falkirk as they can in the remaining games.

Chris Mochrie travels to Dumbarton with Montrose, Ross Graham is away to Clyde with Cove Rangers, Lewis and Kai travel to Airdrieonians with Falkirk and Kieran Freeman faces a slightly more local away fixture with our Scottish Cup 4th Round opponents Forfar Athletic.

It’s no rest for the wicked as on Saturday (10 April), all the lads will be in action once more as Cove host Dumbarton, Falkirk host Clyde, Montrose host Airdrieonians and Peterhead play Partick Thistle at Balmoor.

On the busy fixture list for the lads currently out on loan, Head of Player Pathway and Loans Brian Grant said: “The fixtures are coming thick and fast in League 1 and League 2 now and this gives our young players on loan a great opportunity to gain some valuable compettive experience.

"The Scottish Cup ties played last weekend also gave them a brilliant platform to gain invaluable exposure with games against Cletic and Rangers for a few of the lads. These experiences will stand them in great stead as they continue teir progressas young professionals at Dundee United."
