First Team

Match Preview

1st April 2016

Dundee United return to action this weekend after a two week lay-off courtesy of the international break. While some of the squad has been lucky enough to represent their country over the last few days, the majority of the team enjoyed a well-earned rest in preparation for one of the most important spells of football in the Club’s history. By Graeme Webster With the gap to Kilmarnock now closed to seven points, United have a fighting chance to get within touching distance prior to the league split. The Tangerines have three games remaining before this, one more than Killie, and  will aim to close the gap to three points during April. The first opportunity for United to add to this season's points tally comes in Perth on Saturday when United make the relatively short trip to face St Johnstone. McDiarmid Park has not been the happiest of hunting grounds in recent times but it should be remembered that it was the scene of our great escape from relegation 15 years ago. United came from 2-0 behind in May 12th 2001, to win 2-3 in the penultimate game of the season and clinch safety, this after flirting with relegation for much of 2000/01. A victory this weekend may turn out to be of equal importance. So, having had fortnight to regroup, the time has come for all those associated with Dundee United to come together as one and initiate one last big push. With a cup semi-final and just a small number of pivotal league games remaining, there will be no lack of excitement. To give us the best hope of a successful end to season 2015/16, we must ensure we are united during the next couple of months. It starts on Saturday at 3pm. Let’s get behind the team right from the kick-off. Come on United!!
