SMITH ANTICIPATES O'DONNELL INCLUSION

27th September 2002

Twenty-four hours prior to kick-off, Manager Alex Smith was looking ahead to the challenge of the match with Rangers at Tannadice the following day. "After a week in which we went through to the second round in the CIS Cup and saw a new owner taking over the Club, we end the week by playing host to Rangers, always a very tough fixture. That not withstanding, we are looking forward to the match with relish hoping that we can achieve our first home victory in the League and build on our winning form of Tuesday night. Even though Tuesday's game is incomparable with the task tomorrow, winning always boosts the players' confidence and, hopefully, will develop into a run of points collecting. The players are anticipating the occasion and have been well prepared over the course of the week. Everybody is excited about the game, particularly the younger players who performed so well midweek. In terms of selection, Jim McIntyre will miss the match after an incurring an awkward hip injury which can take a little while to heal. Allan Smart will also not be involved having come off at Tynecastle with a knee ligament problem. On the positive side, the fact that Stephen O'Donnell (pictured) scored a hat-trick on Tuesday and had such a good match together with Mark Wilson brings them both right into the running for a starting berth."
