McCUNNIE NOW FIT TO TRAVEL TO AUSTRIA

3rd July 2002

On Wednesday, Manager Alex Smith was very enthusiastic about the progress in the preparation for next season and noted the outstanding form of individual players who have recovered from injury. "McCunnie has been back in full training over the last few days and now looks likely to be included in our Austria tour following which he will participate in the Ireland Milk Cup. Derek Lilley, who also underwent a minor knee operation at the end of last season is also back to full fitness and looking exceptionally strong. Several months of injury trouble affected the consistency of his performance over the course of the last campaign but the operation and subsequent work with the physiotherapist have restored him back to his best form. Further, Jim Paterson, who probably suffered more than anyone else in the past with injuries, has also completely recovered and looks very sharp. He also shed some weight which will help him to get back to the level of continued fitness he has shown before. I have a feeling this coming season will be his best yet."

On another note the Manager reiterated that he was still intending to strengthen the squad with the addition of one or more players before the start of the season.
