KEVIN HOLT PENS TANNADICE DEAL

23rd June 2023

Dundee United are delighted to announce the signing of Kevin Holt on a one-year deal, subject to SFA approval.

A Dumfries native, Holt began his career with boyhood club Queen of the South. After making the step up to the first team, the left-sided defender would rack up over a century of appearances with the Doonhamers, securing Challenge Cup glory in the process in 2013 and scoring a sensational free-kick in a memorable 2-0 win over Rangers.

A stint with Dundee followed, whilst he also tested himself on the continent as he enjoyed two separate spells with Cypriot First Division sides Pafos and Ermis Aradippou.

Upon his return to Scotland, Holt settled with Partick Thistle and was a senior figure in the Jags’ against-the-odds charge to the Premiership Play-Off final last season.

In the latter, he found the back of the net an impressive nine times, notching crucial goals against both Queen’s Park and Ayr United in the Quarter and Semi-Final of the Play-Offs respectively, whilst also getting on the scoresheet from the spot in a thrilling Scottish Cup clash at Ibrox.

Having amassed a wealth of experience across the Scottish pyramid as he closes in on 500 career appearances, the 30-year-old adds solidity and leadership to United’s rearguard heading into the 2023/24 campaign.

Holt also reunites with former Thistle teammate and fellow Tannadice new boy Ross Docherty.

'RIGHT TYPE OF CHARACTER'

Manager, Jim Goodwin, emphasised the importance of tying Holt to the club for the next 12 months.

“Kevin is a fantastic and experienced defender who knows exactly what it takes to compete and be successful in the Championship.

“He can play in a number of positions across the backline which is a huge bonus and, crucially, is the right type of character whom we need in the group.
