ALL THE INFO | UNIVERSITY OF STIRLING (H)

19th January 2023

Our 2022/23 Scottish Cup journey begins this Saturday as we welcome University of Stirling to Tannadice for a unique Fourth Round tie.

Story of the Match

University of Stirling (UoS) are the first university team to make it to the Last 32 of the Scottish Cup in more than half a century.

The club have six teams in various leagues across the senior and amatuer pyramid, whilst also competing in the  BUCS Football League (British University Competitions). United will take on University of Stirling's First Team.

UoS boast players, all of whom are alumni, from various countries across the globe such as Spain, Malta, Ecuador and Uzbekistan.

The Forthbank side made history in 2014 when they appointed Shelley Kerr as Head Coach, the first ever female to manage a senior men's team in Britain.

She departed in 2017 for Hampden, taking charge of the Scotland Women's National Team, with long-serving striker Chris Geddes filling the void left by Kerr in Stirling.

Lothian Thistle, Dunbar Utd and League Two outfit Albion Rovers have all been swept aside by UoS on their road to the Fourth Round, the latter being defeated after extra time in a breathless cup classic at the Reigart Stadium.

In the Lowland League, UoS sit three points off the top of the table and are well in the mix for promotion, a feat which would make them the first university team to climb into the SPFL pyramid.

United's last meeting with non-league opposition in the Scottish Cup came in 2002, as Alex Smith's side comfortably defeated Forres Mechanics 3-0 thanks to a Hasney Aljofree brace followed by a late Charlie Miller strike four minutes from time.

Kilmarnock were the Terrors' foes at this stage of the competition 12 months ago, with an extra-time Dylan Levitt solo effort enough to secure passage into the Last 16 in front of a boisterous Arab contingent in Ayrshire. Our 2021/22 cup journey faltered at the Quarter-Final stage however, as we succumbed to Celtic at Tannadice in March.

More than 1,000 away supporters comprising students, staff, alumni, and members of the local community are set to descend upon Tannadice.
