DUNDEE UNITED GIRLS' ACADEMY LAUNCHED!

20th December 2019

Dundee United Community Trust (DUCT) is very excited to announce the launch of their brand-new Girls’ Football Academy.

The Girls’ Academy commenced in order to give local girls in Dundee an opportunity to play football regularly. Since introducing the Under- 9s Team as the first step of the Girls’ Academy in September 2019, the interest from players has proven to be exceptional. The Academy has seen popularity from local budding female footballers and has successfully signed all players into the Academy set-up for the 2020 season. Dundee United Community Trust have been working hard to create this Academy with a lot of work behind the scenes having led up to this fantastic achievement. Going into the 2020 season, the female players within Dundee United have opportunities to play football at Under-9s, Under-11s, Under-13s and Under-15s, all supporting the established Dundee United Women’s Football Club.

This week saw all players who will be within the Dundee United Community Trust Girls’ Academy sign on for the upcoming 2020 season! The Under-15s (pictured) will currently be the oldest age group of the Girls’ Academy sitting just before DUWFC. The future pathway for female footballers is a positive one with plans to continue growing the Academy already being looked at! The players attended the recent open training session held by the Dundee United Community Trust and have been invited to sign onwards.

Georgia Carter, DUCT Girls’ and Women’s Development Officer stated, “Each and every player signed at any age group has already proved that they have the qualities and ambition that we want in the Academy. The coaching staff and volunteers are very excited to begin working with them! I can see so much potential in the girls who have now entered our Girls’ Academy and I look forward to seeing every one of them grow and develop, hopefully into the future Dundee United Women’s Football Team!”

Paul Wilson, Head of Community Development at Dundee United Community Trust, also showed his ambition for the new platform for female footballers and stated, “We aim to be the bench mark of female football in the Dundee area.”

Everyone at Dundee United Community Trust would like to welcome all the players into the Girls’ Academy and wish them every success!
