PROSTATE AWARENESS DAY AT TANNADICE THIS SATURDAY

22nd March 2019

The Club is proud to throw a light on prostate disease awareness at tommorow’s match with various activities taking place throughout the ground.

In a very practical way of addressing the issue head-on, there will be two prostate awareness stations at the ground tomorrow where supporters can speak to people experienced in this field, including the Clinical Specialist Nurses from Ninewells.  These information stations are located in the lower tiers of the Eddie Thompson and George Fox stands near the ArabTRUST shops.  The stations will be staffed both pre-match and at half time.

Posters throughout the ground, including in the male toilets, are intended to encourage male fans to be aware of the potential signs and symptoms of prostate disease, and information leaflets are available in all areas of the ground.

To underline the message even further, the team will warm up in bespoke prostate awareness t- shirts in a piece of symbolic action.

The activities are supported by ArabTRUST, who have kindly agreed to sponsor the t-shirts, as well as Dundee United Community Trust (DUCT).

Dundee United Managing Director Mal Brannigan said: “Dundee United is delighted to be working with Prostate Scotland, DUCT and ArabTRUST to raise awareness about the most common cancer in men in Scotland. Thanks to tremendous advances in treatment, there are many men who would not be living as full a life as they are today and we all need to continue to support the results achieved from research.  Early detection and subsequent diagnosis is key and today is all about communicating those first symptoms to look out for.”

Community Trust Chairman David Dorward said: “Generally speaking, as men we are still not very good at looking after our own health and it is high time for an attitude change.  Tannadice brings together thousands of male supporters on a matchday and as such, it is the ideal place to start having the conversation we might otherwise choose to avoid.”

ArabTRUST Chairperson Susan Batten added: “ArabTRUST is proud to sponsor the T-shirts the United squad will be warming up in today and by doing so hopes to encourage supporters to use the opportunity to pick up information leaflets or speak with the specialist nurses in the lower tier concourses today.”
