Toshney Goal Unable To Prevent Defeat For Reserves

18th September 2018

Craig Easton’s United side were unlucky not to take something from the game at what became a blustery afternoon at St Andrews University Playing Fields.

Fraser Fyvie continued his comeback from injury along with Billy King; both started and Lewis Toshney played the final third of the game.

Rangers took the lead through Jack Thompson on ten minutes after his low drive found the bottom corner of the net. United pressed for a quick reply and Fyvie stung the hands of McAdams in the Rangers goal with a powerful free kick on twenty-two minutes.

Luc Bollan nearly got on the end of a Billy King free-kick and Declan Glass had a shot blocked after good play by Matty Smith as United finished the half strong.

Andy Dallas doubled Rangers’ lead on fifty-one minutes, sliding the ball underneath the diving Donaldson. Lewis Toshney came off the substitutes' bench shortly after the hour mark and pulled a goal back with fifteen minutes left, meeting a corner and wisely directing home.

As United pressed for a late equaliser, McAdams made a world-class stop to deny Louis Appere’s thunder header at the back post as the game neared its conclusion.

Overall, Easton’s men can feel hard done by that they did not take at least a point from the game.
