MCDONALD HAS EYES ON DERBY DEBUT

26th July 2017

New signing Scott McDonald is hoping to make his debut in the Dundee derby this coming Sunday and was visibly excited when Dundee United Media spoke to him about that prospect just minutes after he joined the Terrors. Scott said, "It's not a bad one to be introduced into, is it? I will be in training tomorrow, and we will let the manager assess the situation and take it from there. I obviously haven't played much football, but regarding general fitness, I am in a good place. "I do not expect to start the match, but I would love to play a part." Scott was at United as a youngster trying to secure a contract and admits he is far better educated regarding fitness nowadays. "I tend to look after myself a bit better these days. As you get older, you don't let a day go by because you are always worried about being behind the eight ball. "I am sure I would be okay on Hamburger Hill (Camperdown) nowadays!" United has secured Scott services primarily because he is a top-level striker who would enhance most teams in Scotland however he acknowledges the experience he brings is also a significant factor. "When I spoke to the Manager he confirmed he sees me as playing through the middle and it is something I haven't had for a few years. "I will also have a responsibility to lead by example and use my experience to help the younger players in the squad. We have some exciting attacking talent here right now in King, McMullan, Fraser and Keatings amongst others - players who have big futures ahead of them and if I can help them, I will." First up though is Sunday's Betfred Cup tie at Dens and Scott is very much focused on the team game. "It'd be good to get a win first and foremost. If I can score and grab a headline that would be nice too." United fans have purchased just over 3400 tickets for the match and tickets, priced £20 for adults and £12 for concessions, remain on sale. United fans can buy in person from the ticket centre or by calling 01382 833166 (option 1). The ticket centre is open 9am - 5pm during the week and this weekend will open 9am - 1pm on Saturday and noon - 3pm on Sunday.
