Match Preview

19th September 2016

United make the journey west on Tuesday evening for a Betfred Cup Quarter final tie versus fellow Championship club Morton. The opportunity to secure a Hampden visit awaits and the event has a big game feel to it. The home team come into the match on the back of a 2-1 victory over Dunfermline last Saturday, and Manager Jim Duffy will be determined to continue the positive momentum with another home success. Ex-United man Gavin Gunning made his debut for the Greenock team and, alongside other ex-Terror Kudos Oyenuga, he will be keen to put one over United. Ray McKinnon does not have his selection problems to seek as Toshney, Flood, Andreu and Telfer all left the field injured or unwell on Saturday. This creates the opportunity for others to seize the moment and become Tuesday's hero. Stewart Murdoch may well come into the equation for this one as he returns from injury. The Manager has looked back at Saturday's game and feels the Tangerines were unlucky to lose the game whilst having to battle against many aggravating circumstances in the second half. In his pre-match comments, Ray was at pains to point out there were many positives in the performance and to the start of the season the team has made. His clearest message was that United are going to Cappielow to win the game and grab the chance to appear in a national semi-final. Should it be required, the game will go to extra-time and penalty kicks. With attractive pricing (£18 Adults, £15 Concessions, £5 Children 12-16-year-olds, FOC – Under-12s as long as accompanied by a full paying adult.) the advice is to arrive early to ensure entry in time for kick-off.
