UNITED FOR KIDS 2014

25th July 2014

Disadvantaged young people from across Dundee will again be able to watch Scottish Premiership football this season for free thanks to the generosity of Dundee United fans and their Club.

This is the ninth year Dundee United, the Club's supporters and Dundee City Council Integrated Children's Services have teamed up to give away free season tickets for Tannadice.

Stephen Thompson, Dundee United Chairman, was joined at the stadium today by Lord Provost Bob Duncan, Integrated Children's Services Manager, Bert Sandeman, David Mulholland, Chairman of United for All, and Colin Stewart, DUFC Associate Director, to hand over 321 briefs.

Lord Provost Bob Duncan said, "For almost a decade the club and its fans have been giving this generous gift which gives many of our children the chance to get into the habit of supporting a local football team.

"I am pleased to see so many tickets go to such a wide variety of projects and agencies involved with children and family services across the city."

Children and young people from a range of backgrounds and circumstances, including, young carers, looked after children and other young people who could not otherwise afford to attend matches will benefit from this opportunity.

The United for Kids appeal was originally suggested by exiled fan Dr Andy Holt living in Canada and was launched at the end of June 2005, with the club pledging to match every penny donated to the appeal by fans. Since then it has grown steadily each season and is now administered by a registered charity, United for All.

David Mulholland, chairman of United for All said: "The trustees are delighted to be involved in this scheme again at the start of another season.

"It fits exactly with our aims and objectives of trying to get more people involved in sport whether it be taking part or watching. It has been a pleasure today to see the tickets handed out to those who are disadvantaged in one way or another.

"We applaud the Club for more than matching the donations made this year and want to thank Dundee City Council's Integrated Children's Services for identifying those who benefit most from the tickets.

Dundee United Chairman Stephen Thompson said: "We take our role within the community extremely seriously and the United for Kids appeal continues to be a pivotal aspect of that role.

"Each year, we ask our fans to show their generosity and join us in assisting with this project and once again they have showed the kind of commitment which makes me proud of their actions.

"United for All and the Council's Integrated Children's Services have also played a tremendous role in helping facilitate the project and distributing the tickets to worthwhile causes. United for All has reinvigorated the appeal and we look forward to working closely with them on a range of future initiatives."
