UNITED X1 DEFEAT HAMILTON

18th August 2009

A strong United team took part in a closed door match against Hamilton Academicals today as several first team squad members continued their journey to full match fitness.

The starting line included Lee Wilkie who continued his rehabilitation from his summer clean up operation and Damien Casalinuovo on his return from a shoulder injury.

The Tangerines started the game brightly and were two goals up within the first 11 minutes, with Craig Conway grabbing both goals.

The first came about after a lovely run from Casalinuovo created the opportunity for Conway to volley into the roof of the net from around eight yards. The second was a terrific 25 yard free kick despatched into the goalkeeper's left hand post.

Hamilton responded well and by the 55th minute it was 3-2 to the visitors.

This only cajoled United into top gear again and Jenison Myrie Williams secured a penalty kick from which Casalinuovo opened his account. Finally, good work from the Argentinian saw his cut back lashed into the net by Johnny Russell for United's fourth and final goal of the game.

All in all it was a worthwhile run out for the several first team members who took part.
