RESERVES LOSE TO LATE CALEY GOAL

15th November 2004

United lined up a very young side against a much more experienced Inverness. Euan McLean was handed an outing behind a back four made up entirely of Under-19 players Stuart Abbot, Garry Kenneth, Ross Gardiner and William Easton. Alongside the experienced Mark Kerr in midfield were Barry Callaghan, Greg Cameron and Steven Bell with Joe Andrew and Collin Samuel up front.

The young Tangerines were below par in the first half and went in at the interval losing by two goals but after the interval changes were made to the formation with Callaghan and Easton in particular playing in more forward positions. This achieved a very much improved performance with some good deliveries coming in from the wide areas resulting in two good goals from Samuel to pull the sides level. Nicky McDonald was brought on to replace Andrew and United were looking the better team towards the end. It was therefore a little against the run of play when the home side scored the winning goal on a counter attack in the last minute.

After the match Tony Docherty said, "We had a very young side out tonight and the first half performance was below the standard we have seen from the players lately. However after half time we made a few changes and turned things around to pull level. It was disappointing to lose out to a last minute goal but we are not downhearted. We have played well in recent weeks and we are still in a positive frame of mind."
