STATEMENT FROM CHAIRMAN EDDIE THOMPSON

Dundee United Chairman Eddie Thompson has today provided an exclusive statement to the Club web site, following his media briefing on 2 December 2003 outlining various issues and forward plans for the Club.

Eddie Thompson said: "Media briefings are very important and we have an excellent relationship with the reporters who attended yesterday. Sometimes though, it is simply not possible for the subsequent reports to carry all of the information conveyed. I thought it appropriate therefore to make a personal statement via the web site to ensure that Dundee United fans are provided with a comprehensive account of the main topics covered yesterday.

Firstly, I felt it important to clarify and correct some of the wild and misleading speculation seen in certain quarters recently that the club is in financial difficulty. While all of Scottish football is facing extreme financial pressure and we, of course, are not immune from this, we are in a much stronger position than many other Clubs. If a financial league table was drawn up today, we would definitely be in the top six. With the exception of Motherwell and Partick Thistle, our total debt must be about the lowest in the SPL. Although we have a bank facility in the region of
