TWO MILLER GOALS AND UNITED LEAPFROG PARTICK

20th September 2003

In the early stages of the match against Partick Thistle, only a goal line clearance by Alan Archibald prevented the home side going in front and Partick went on to make the better of the first half hour. However, after weathering the early storm, United began to come more and more into the game. The visitors created a couple of opportunities and, with five minutes to go until half time, they took the lead. Jim McIntyre got a contact to a corner by McLaren and the clearance by the Thistle defence was not good enough and Charlie Miller latched on to the loose ball then fired high into the roof of the net for the opener.

In the second half, United were the better side and, although Partick had a couple of early chances again, it was Miller who scored to increase United's lead, driving home a cut-back from Jason Scotland. Miller then went looking for a hat-trick and his next effort was deflected for a corner, and substitutes Dodds and Kerr both went close late on.

This was another excellent team effort and the three points gained lifted United from the bottom of the league with their first victory of the season. Ian McCall will no doubt be delighted with the outcome and will now look to build on this performance.
