ONE GOAL EARNS THREE PONTS FOR UNDER-19s

20th September 2003

In an entertaining first half at North End Park this morning the Dundee United Under-19 side created a number of chances to take the lead against their Partick Thistle counterparts but at half time the sides went in level at 0-0.

The young Tangerines continued to be in control of the match after the interval and the same trend as happened in the first half was repeated. However Steven Bell was clever enough to beat the offside trap and scored the only goal of the game from eighteen yards to take full points for his side.

Coach Tony Docherty felt that his young players had dominated for much of the time but he rued the number of missed opportunities in the match. The longer the game went on the more frustration the team felt but in the end Tony was at least pleased to get three points. He also said, "We have set high standards for the boys and we are working hard to make sure that these are met. I know the lads missed a lot of chances today but I was pleased that chances were being created and we will have to work even harder on this aspect in training."
