IT WAS 20 YEARS AGO TODAY...

14th May 2003

Eddie Thompson, Chairman of Dundee United, and Jim McLean, former Manager and Chairman, got around to completing some unfinished business when they got together to mark the Club's 20th anniversary (May 14) of the 1982/83 Scottish League Championship success. For the one major glaring gap in the Club's Boardroom was a photograph of Tannadice legend McLean to sit side by side with previous Club Chairmen.

Eddie Thompson said, "It is particularly appropriate that in this very special week we did something that marks Jim's and his team's remarkable League success. That season I went to every single match hardly believing that as the season drew to a close we were on the verge of greatness. Jim has made such a magnificent contribution to the Club over the past 30 years and I hope this small gesture clearly illustrates the respect and admiration we have for him at United."

Jim McLean said, "I very much appreciate the gesture from Eddie and the Board. We had a special team in the 80s and together I like to think we helped shake up Scottish football creating the New Firm in the process. It will be a feel strange to be hanging there in the Boardroom beside previous Chairmen - especially as I am still alive and kicking!"
