UNITED UNDER-21s LOSE TO VISITORS HEARTS

17th March 2003

Hearts had the better of the better of the first half with de Vries as main thrust of their attacks. The visitors took the lead in 23 minutes when Kirk found himself some space on the edge of the six yards' box and fired beyond Jarvie. United were not much of a threat with a number of offensive moves breaking down.

Early in the second half, both sides tried to attack but defences were coping well. A bad pass-back by Lauchlan let Kirk in for his second. The game was dominated by the stronger Hearts side and United were unable to find a way through, and in the dying minutes another Hearts break just went wide.

In the end, the Hearts were worth their 2-0 win and for United the only possible plus point was the good performance of Chiarini (pictured) who looked well after the dangerous De Vries.
