UNITED SUNK BY LATE LATE LIVI GOAL

15th March 2003

There was only one change to the United staring line-up with Charlie Miller restored to midfield in place of the injured Russell Latapy, and Danny Griffin was on the bench in place of Daniele Chiarini. Livingston made four changes. Eugene Dadi dropped out through injury, while Francisco Quino, Rolando Zarate and Cherif Tore-Maman were on the bench. Oscar Rubio, Burton O'Brien, Colin McMenamin and Davide Xausa all returned for the visitors.

In a rather dull first half, the Tangerines were marginally the better outfit and their best chance fell to Lilley in the sixth minute. Paterson found space on the left wing and while his cross was good, Lilley could not direct his header on target and it went wide. United also had a couple of attempts through McCunnie and Miller who both tested Main in the Livingston goal. Then, with half time approaching, Lilley was unlucky to lose track of the ball when he and Miller worked a clever one-two on the edge of the box. Livingston's best efforts came from an early free kick which was headed wide at the far post and then, as Miller and Easton got mixed up, Lovell broke away but fired over from 20 yards out and later tried a snap shot which finished the same way.

The second half got underway but the pattern changed very little, with both sides struggling to get shots on target. Most attempts were going over the top or wide and those who did manage a rare shot on goal found both goalkeepers handling well. United's best chance in the second period came from McIntyre when his angled volley from a Dodds's pass was too straight and Main held it easily. Livingston were restricted to a few long-range efforts but with only two minutes remaining they scored to steal the points. Marvin Andrews played a one-two in the centre circle and then powered his way forward. McCracken seemed to have the situation in hand but as he challenged on the edge of the six-yard box, Andrews stretched a leg to flick the ball past the advancing Gallacher.

United will be disappointed with the loss of all three points in a game which overall was not up to the standard seen in the Tangerines' last two encounters.
