UNITED FAIL TO SIGN KENNEDY

23rd January 2003

Dundee United have been unsuccessful in a major bid to bring one of Scotland's most talented young defenders to Tannadice. United made a substantial offer to Celtic Football Club for their talented Scotland Under 21 star John Kennedy but unfortunately Martin O'Neil was as keen to keep the player as United wanted him. Eddie Thompson, Chairman of Dundee United Football Club said, "I have had excellent negotiations with Celtic Chief Executive Ian McLeod over the past seven days. We put in a substantial offer for the player however the Celtic management team wanted to keep him at the club."

Eddie Thompson continued. "Again, this shows the ambition of Dundee United Football Club to bring quality players to the club. However our search for other players has not stopped and I am hopeful that we might still be able to bring in another signing before the transfer window closes at the end of this month."
