BREBNER HAT TRICK HALTS UNITED FIGHT BACK

A large crowd packed into a sunny Tannadice Park for this afternoon's Tennent's Scottish Cup Third Round tie against Hibernian. Making his first team debut for United was new signing Daniele Chiarini.

Two goals from Grant Brebner gave Hibernian a commanding lead half time lead, the goals coming in the 10th and 28th minutes.

HALF-TIME: UNITED 0 HIBERNIAN 2

United had the ball in the Hibs net in the first few minutes of the second half but the goal was ruled offside. Midway throught the second half a United corner was headed clear into the path of O'Donnell who had come on for Easton in the 50th minute and his first time volley was deflected into the net to reduce the deficit to one.

With eleven minutes remaining, United were awarded a penalty that was converted by Hamilton to level the tie.

Grant Brebner then restored Hibs lead in the last few minutes however United hit the post and had the ball in the net a second time only for it to be ruled offside.
