UNITED SEND STRIPS TO BRAZIL

10th December 2002

Dundee United have joined with local broadcaster and author Billy Kay to send a set of Dundee United strips to a group of Brazilian street kids.

Billy Kay said, "At Mount Zion farm I met kids from horrific backgrounds in the favelas and the streets, who have been given a new life and are seizing the opportunity they have been given. The teenage boys have formed a football team that plays other teams from the surrounding district. They love playing and are very enthusiastic but when they play teams with strips and kits they feel very much what they are -the poor kids from the wrong side of the tracks. The Charity Care and Compassion manages to feed and educate the kids, but they could never afford a set of strips.

"As a Dundee United fan, I wanted to see the boys turn out in the tangerine strips. Now thanks to the generosity of Dundee United we will be able to bring the boys a great Christmas present.

Billy Kay's visit to Brazil will be broadcast by BBC Radio Scotland on New Year Day at 1.05pm.
