MANAGER LOOKS FOR IMPROVED PERFORMANCE

29th November 2002

On the eve of his fifth match at the helm of the Club, Paul Hegarty was looking for his team to bounce back from the poor performance and result of the Dens Park derby the previous week. "It was obviously very disappointing to lose against our local rivals. Damage was done in the early minutes of the game and the only positives we can take out of it was the way we brought ourselves back into the game in the last half hour. We showed lots of character, courage and commitment, scored two goals and narrowed the gap. Maybe if the game had lasted another five minutes, we would have equalised. The players were magnificent in the last 30 minutes but, to be frank, we defended poorly to begin with and were always chasing the match. From a neutral's point of view, it was an excellent match to watch, plenty of goal mouth incidents, lots of goals, many talking points, for us it was a loss of three points."

Looking ahead to tomorrow, Hegarty commented: "Our aim is to get back to our winning ways in what will be certainly a difficult game against Aberdeen. In terms of our selection options, Jamie McCunnie may miss the match as he has developed flu symptoms and a sore throat in the course of the night. The good news is that Paul Gallacher came through training sessions well yesterday and today following an injury. Arnar Gunnlaugsson is another one back in the squad. He had a thigh knock in the early part of the week, but he has recovered as well. The only one who is out is Allan Smart who misses the game through suspension."
