THOMPSON IMPRESSES IN SCOTLAND WIN

12th October 2002

United's leading scorer this season and top marksman last term, Steven Thompson featured in virtually the entire match in Reykjavik,Iceland this afternoon playing a major part in Scotland's 2-0 win over their hosts in the Euro 2004 qualifier in front of an attendance of just over six and half thousand.

Playing up front alongside Dunfermline's Stevie Crawford, Tommo put in a significant amount of work closing down the Icelanders at every opportunity. It was the 90th minute before Coach Vogts substituted Thompson by bringing on Heart's Scott Severin.

Steven is now on standby to add to his growing number of international caps in the Tuesday evening's international friendly against Canada at Easter Road where he is likely to come up against former playing partner and United favourite Jason de Vos.
