O'DONNELL HAT TRICK SEALS WIN FOR UNITED

24th September 2002

United manager Alex Smith made the changes to the team line up that he said he would this evening against Queen's Park in the CIS Cup second round tie at Tannadice Park. In came David McCracken, Stephen O'Donnell, Jim Paterson and Jim McIntyre. On the bench was Saturday's 200th appearance man Craig Easton.

United started off briskly with a goal direct from a free kick after just five minutes scored by Stephen O'Donnell. The nineteen year old scored his own and United's second in the 35th minute when he chipped over Queen's Park keeper Stewart.

Just before half time, Canning pulled one back for the Glasgow side.

A double within a period of five minutes sealed the tie for the Tangerines around the hour mark. First Stephen O'Donnell netted for his hat trick then Steven Thompson hit his fourth of the season to complete the scoring.
